Dr. James E Pinkston DSW, LCSW

Dr. James Pinkston, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at the University of Mississippi before he went on to further his education at Tulane University where he earned a Master’s in Social Work and Doctorate in Social Work.

Before joining Mid Cities Psychiatry, he worked as a Clinical Director of a community mental health center in one of Mississippi’s largest counties. There, he supervised outpatient services and worked extensively with the clinicians to best serve the community. Prior to this, Dr. Pinkston’s work includes private practice work with individuals, families, and couples as well psychometric work under a supervising psychologist.

His therapeutic approach stems from the biopsychosocial model that focuses on growth and skill-development. He believes that the therapeutic relationship is the vehicle to change, and often uses humor to engage clients throughout sessions. Dr. Pinkston’s expertise lies in biofeedback which allows clients to learn to control their physiological responses and increase awareness of changes within in their own bodies. Dr. Pinkston treats a large spectrum of conditions, and has a particular interest in the treatment of phobic disorders and sexual disorders. In his free time, Dr. Pinkston enjoys photography, playing the guitar, watching old film noir movies, and attending live music shows. Dr. Pinkston is excited to be a Texan and a part of the Mid-City Psychiatry team.
