Borderline Personality Disorder

Someone’s having a hard time regulating his/her emotions; this difficulty will lead to severe, wobbly mood swings, impulsivity and unpredictability, poor self-esteem and tempestuous personal relationships. Intense fear of abandonment may be the worst and might be the hardest part is tolerating being alone. Mostly of mental health experts now agree that the so-called “borderline personality disorder” is very ambiguous, the more precise term does not yet exist.

Symptoms may trigger an ordinary event

Just like people suffering from the said disorder may angry and distressed over minor separations. Studies show that people with this condition may see the anger in an expressively neutral face and have a stronger reaction to words with negative meanings than people who do not have the disorder. Occasionally people with BPD view themselves as deeply ruthless or worthless. They may feel bored, void, or falsely misunderstood or neglected, and they have little understanding of who they are. Such symptoms are most serious when people with BPD feel secluded or lacking in social support, and they may result in desperate efforts to avoid being unaccompanied.

Psychotherapy, medications, and group, peer, and family support. Group and individual psychotherapy are the treatments recommended. It has shown that these are an effective way to help or treat the patients.  It has been studied and proven to be effective as there are ways to ease symptoms. Psychotherapy is the first-line treatment and other forms of therapy, such as dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

If you know someone who has BPD there are tendencies that it may affect you too. Helping your loved one to get the right diagnosis and treatment is the first and most important thing that you can do. Many people have mental health concerns from time to time.  But a mental health concern becomes a mental illness when ongoing signs and symptoms cause frequent stress and affect one’s ability to function.
